Taking Care Of Sensitive Skin In The Winter Months
It’s absolutely no secret for those that know me and follow my story through my blog that I have always dealt with sensitive skin. One of the hard parts about dealing with sensitivity is that is can change so quickly, especially as the seasons change. Winter tends to be hard on women’s skin in general – and I have been no different. As a general rule, I have worked hard to put my own self-care at the forefront & learning and caring about what products and strategies are best for my skincare routine has been important to me. I am so excited to be partnering with Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant for this post and sharing with you some amazing tips straight from one of their doctors!
The truth is that all seasons come with their challenges and lessons to learn when it comes to proper skincare, but the winter months are a great time to rejuvenate and give some extra TLC. Working with Dove Advanced Care has been such an amazing experience because they have doctors who specialize in sensitive skin. One on their team is Dove Dermatologist, Dr. Alicia Barba, and I have learned a ton from her!
Here are some of my favorite tips for caring for sensitive skin in the winter months:
Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. This cannot be more important! There is no wrong or right season to have sun protection on your skin. I try my best to use lotions are moisturizers that have SPF included so that no matter when or where I am going outside, my skin is taken care of. Harmful UV rays don’t take a break for cold weather. Even if you’re bundled up, sunscreen is a must for your face, and any other skin that’s not covered up.
Do not try to intensely exfoliate. This is one I am so so so guilty of & I am glad that the record has been set straight by Dr. Barba. Just because skin is dry and maybe cracked or chapped, does not mean it’s time to scrub it all off. In fact, that can dry out your skin even more and strip our skin of its natural oils that are trying their best to hydrate us – even when the weather outside is dry and tough. Don’t dehydrate your skin but instead help to enhance its already hard work and add some moisture.
Care for your underarms. I always have had issues with my sensitive underarm skin! Different clothing and certainly different weather conditions are constantly irritating underneath my arms. It’s not only uncomfortable, but embarrassing as well. I never put much thought into the antiperspirant that I was using and about how that could be playing a big role in the issue, but Dr. Barba says it can make a big difference. That’s why Dove Advanced Care is so perfect for me & everyone else who wants to help hydrate and protect that area.
Use a hydrating cleanser. There is nothing worse than the winter months aggravating your eczema, psoriasis, or winter itch. Gentle exfoliation and a great hydration can do absolute wonders!!
I am a huge fan of Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant and have been using this brand exclusively for years and years! The fresh smells and smooth texture is a total winner but it’s also the 48-hour odor and wetness protection, plus added skin care benefits for softer, smoother underarms that sold me! Have you tried it yourself? You definitely should! Check it out here.
