How Can I Plan A Fun Staycation With Kids That Everyone Will Enjoy?
We just got back from a 2-night stay at Great Wolf Lodge in Naples, Florida, and it ended up being one of those trips the kids are still talking about days later. Traveling as a family of six, we’re usually juggling different interests and energy levels, but this was one of the rare trips where everyone found something to love. Planning a fun staycation with kids that everyone will enjoy is not only possible at Great Wolf Lodge – it’s expected! This stay was better than we could have even hoped for & now we are counting down the days until we can go back again!
Best Kid Friendly Resorts
From the moment we checked in, it felt designed for families like ours. There was a lot of space to spread out, which matters when you have four kids with very different personalities and bedtimes. We didn’t feel cramped, and that alone made a big difference in how relaxed the trip felt.

As a mom who travels often, I notice the little things quickly – how far you have to walk for coffee, how comfortable a room truly is for a large family, or if you’re answering “what’s next?” every 20 minutes. Here, everything was in one place, and that made the biggest difference. No shuttles, no over-planning, no logistical puzzles to solve. Just walk out the door and you’re already in the middle of the fun.
The whole atmosphere leaned very family-friendly without feeling chaotic. Every tiny detail has been thought of – it was clean, SUPER cute, and totally immersive. The staff were patient, everything felt easy to navigate, and there were always other families around, which made it feel comfortable and low-stress.
Themed Rooms That Made It Special
The themed room was an immediate hit. The kids were excited before we even unpacked, and it honestly felt like part of the vacation, not just a place to sleep. Hotel rooms can either be your sanctuary, or the place you wanna run away from to find the fun, but here at Great Wolf Lodge, they were just as magical as the rest of the resort. In fact, the bunk room was a total hit for my 3 boys!

Each of our kids connected with it in their own way:
- Our 12-year-old appreciated having their own space to unwind.
- Our 10-year-old fully leaned into the theme and didn’t want to leave the room.
- Our 7-year-old treated it like an extension of playtime.
- Our 4-year-old was just completely wide-eyed the entire time.
From a mom’s perspective, I loved that the room itself helped entertain them. There were moments where I could actually sit, sip a coffee while it was still hot, and not feel like I needed to be “on” every second. That’s rare on family trips.
Best Family Vacations in the USA
Hands down, the water park was the favorite part of the trip. If we had let them, the kids would have stayed there from open to close both days.

What worked really well for our mix of ages:
- Slides and attractions that kept the older two entertained
- Plenty of splash areas and shallow sections for the younger kids
- Enough variety that no one got bored
We appreciated that it felt manageable, even with four kids. We could keep everyone in sight without feeling stressed, which is usually the hardest part of water parks for us.
Another thing I noticed – and appreciated – was how easy it was to take breaks. We could head back to the room quickly, reset, grab snacks, change clothes, and be back out without it turning into a whole production. That kind of convenience is everything when you’re traveling with younger kids.
It also gave us a good balance — high-energy fun during the day, followed by calmer evenings back in the room.

A family vacation that provides togetherness and memory
making
Traveling with four kids means we’re always thinking about logistics, but this trip just felt easy.
A few things that stood out:
- Everything was close and convenient
- No constant need to plan or over-schedule
- Built-in entertainment meant less “what should we do next?”
- The environment felt safe and welcoming for kids of all ages
As someone who plans a lot of family travel, I really value places that are intentionally designed for kids – not just accommodating them, but actually built with families in mind. This felt like one of those places. It removed so much of the mental load that usually comes with traveling.
What We’d Do Next Time
Two nights felt like a great intro, but we could easily see ourselves staying longer next time. The kids definitely weren’t ready to leave.
If we came back, we’d:
- Plan for more downtime in the room (the kids really enjoyed it)
- Spend even more time at the water park
- Arrive earlier on day one to maximize time
The Most Family Friendly Resort
This was one of those trips that actually lived up to the hype for our whole family. That doesn’t happen often with such a wide age range, but this checked all the boxes.
From a mama’s perspective, the biggest win was how simple it all felt. Less coordinating, less carrying, less thinking – and more actually enjoying the time together. That’s ultimately what you want out of a family trip.
The combination of the themed room, the water park, and the overall family-friendly setup made Great Wolf Lodge in Naples feel like a true getaway without being complicated to manage. For a family of six, that’s a big win.
FAQ
Is it good for a wide range of ages?
Yes, and this was one of the biggest surprises for us. With kids ranging from 4 to 12, it’s not easy to find a place where everyone is equally excited. The older kids had enough thrill and independence to feel like they weren’t stuck doing “little kid” activities, while the younger ones had safe, engaging areas designed just for them. There was never a moment where someone felt left out or bored, which is rare for our family dynamic.
Is two nights enough?
Two nights worked well as a first visit and gave us enough time to explore, settle in, and really enjoy the water park without feeling rushed. That said, we left wishing we had one more day. The kids would have happily stayed longer, and an extra night would have allowed for a more relaxed pace, especially with built-in downtime. If your schedule allows, three nights would be ideal.
What was the best part?
The water park was easily the highlight and where we spent most of our time. It struck a great balance between exciting and manageable, which isn’t always the case with water parks. The variety kept all four kids engaged, and as a parent, I appreciated being able to supervise without feeling overwhelmed. It felt fun rather than stressful, which made a huge difference.
Are the themed rooms worth it?
Absolutely. The themed room added so much to the overall experience and wasn’t just a novelty. It gave the kids their own space to play and unwind, which meant the room itself became part of the entertainment. It also helped create those “wow” moments right from the start, which set the tone for the whole trip. For us, it was 100% worth it.
Is it manageable with multiple kids?
Yes, and this is where the resort really stands out. Having everything in one place made it incredibly manageable, even with four kids at different ages and stages. We weren’t constantly packing bags, navigating transportation, or coordinating complicated plans. That simplicity reduced a lot of the usual stress and allowed us to actually enjoy the experience as a family.
