St Pete Homeschooling Setup & Requirements
Florida is a great place to be a homeschooling family. The state really allows for parents to make the final call on what they do or do not want their child to do. Thankful that we are here and can keep our children home. Here are the easy steps to get started:
- Gather your information. Be sure to read through the PINELLAS COUNTY HOMESCHOOL site so you are familiar with what you are responsible for. Of course, things can change at any time and any year can have new requirements so always be sure to check there first.
- Fill out your Notice of Intent to begin home education. This is a simple form that you download that just has the child’s name, birthday, home address, and your intended start date of school for the year. Send this in & you will be able to begin!
- On your start date the Pinellas County Home Education office will mail a letter of acceptance to you. Please keep this document in your home education file.
- Throughout the year, you prepare the child’s portfolio, educational log and decide which assessment method will be used for the required yearly evaluation. (See the copy of Florida Statutes related to home education for further details).
