Teaching Our Kids “WHY”

The reality of every sweet tiny baby is that they eventually grow up, and as my husband and I are realizing our kids are growing up way too fast! Something we’ve been talking about a lot is the idea of teaching our kids WHY – when it comes to just about anything. ⁣

I never ever want my kids to hear that they can’t do something or should not do something and not know the reasons and the consequences in which we have established that rule or that decision. As they get older, I realize that they will want to test boundaries and feel things out for themselves, but I truly believe that curiosity can kill and when you have no idea what’s around the corner things can seem much brighter. ⁣

One of my biggest goals as a parent is to properly train my children up in the ways of the Lord, and that does not mean blindly teaching them to obey, but it does mean to explain to them all the reasons why we are leading them this way and all of the reasons in which it is protective for them.⁣

Is anyone else doing the same with their kids? ⁣

Being open and honest and real with them is not some thing I’m 100% looking forward to, especially as they become preteens and teenagers, but I know it is some thing that will help them be prepared when they hear of new things, or are standing in front of a cross roads.⁣

I encourage you to also think about why you are teaching your kids what you were teaching them and be honest with them about what those reasons are. I hope that the open conversations and mutual respect that his belt will allow them to be more honest with us in the future as well.⁣
