Why We “Keep On Summering” in Gulf Shores, Alabama
Gulf Shores & Orange Beach, Alabama hold a super special place in my heart! When we left over 2 1/2 years ago for a trip around the country in our RV, this was our very first spot. We had never been before, but heard amazing things from people who lived their locally and those who had brought their family on vacation to the area before. With it being so highly recommended, we knew that it needed to be our first stop when we left Florida! Geographically, it worked out perfectly, seeing as it is right along the border of the AL/FL line (Florabama, you may have heard it called – lol!) With eager spirits, we made our trip up there & stayed for a whole month back in April of 2017 & ever since it has been a destination that we keep coming back to! Now, we too can recommend the area to families as a great Southeastern spot for vacationing – all year long!
I think, deep down, everyone craves a beach vacation! The peace and joy that comes with stepping your feet in the warm sand with the sun shining over you is simply an unmatched feeling. I know that while we were traveling all over the country, I missed the Gulf of Mexico and it’s gorgeous weather throughout our time in colder climates. The amazing thing about Gulf Shores and Orange Beach is that the ability to vacation on the beach doesn’t end when the summer season ends. The sunshine and warm water follows us well into the fall – making it the ideal spot for planning a family trip, Labor Day to Thanksgiving!
So, why is Gulf Shores & Orange Beach such a hot spot for families? I’ll give you a few of our favorite things about the area:
The BEACH. The pictures can speak for themselves, but the beaches here are simply incredible. The white sand, with just miles of blue water and open space makes this a great place to bring the whole family. It is spacious, so you will never feel cramped or crowded, and it is inviting. The beach is absolutely pristine & the moment your toes hit the sand, you will be transported into vacation mode. In fact, the water is great for the entire family to enjoy as well. The Gulf is amazing because the waves generally don’t get too high and the water stays warm for most of the year. My kids could splash and play all day & oftentimes, we do!
The FOOD. Oh, my. You won’t ever go hungry when you visit Gulf Shores or Orange Beach. The amount of restaurants that will take your breath away are too many to count. I’ve never had a bad meal in the area – and we have tried a bunch! Not only are the local seafood and tropical tastes delicious, but the restaurants all have such fun vibes. Whether you want to sit and see the water, dance to some upbeat tunes, or simply feel the culture of Alabama – they have it all on the coast!
The FAMILY FRIENDLY culture. I think this is the #1 reason why I will never stop vacationing with my kids in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach! I was blown away on that first trip with how incredibly family-friendly the whole town is. Everyone is excited to see the kiddos playing, eating, and enjoying their time here. Not every vacation or tourist spot is accommodating towards kids, but you will not have to worry one bit when you book your trip here! There is SO much to do, from amusement parks/rides, to the Zoo, to the games and playgrounds at many of the restaurants… your whole family will absolutely love their time spent here.
I am already counting down the days until our next trip to the area & if you have not been yet, you definitely need to plan one! Now that the kids are back in school, you will be itching for an autumn getaway soon & this is the perfect destination to do so!
